blue branches

Pale yellow house in the crook of the sea
sand in the yard and a creaking blue tree
she stares into dusklight and whispers a song
"Why baby why baby where'd we go wrong?"

An elf on her shoulder was jaded by Christmas
he cheated the system and burned down the wishlist
he's comforted now as she sings the same song
over and over and over till dawn

A bird on the front porch betrayed by the sky
weeps like an angel damned down by the Light
one wing broken lifeless, now never she'll fly
she daydreams in darkness pretending to die

One night long ago two young lovers were ended
as one of them jumped from the bridge of existence
the other, left cold and alone by the sea now
sings "Why baby why baby where'd we go wrong?"

She climbs up the tree then she swings from the branches
black curls and white stockings sway madly while crashing
down into the sand with stark thoughts of love thrashing
she closes her eyes now while blue lips keep asking

"Why baby why baby where'd we go wrong?"
